I’m Pam – Creator of The Life Manifesto

I’m a morning person, awkward hugger, and happiness advocate.

I spent most of my life working my ass off, chasing a moving goal line and doing what made everyone else happy. I rushed through college in three years and had a full-time job before I could legally have a beer.

By the time I turned 30 I’d built a successful company, got out of debt, met a great guy, and had a life that looked ideal on social media but I still felt like something was missing. I tried going back to college for a 2nd degree, countless hobbies, and starting a new business but something was missing.

I was working more than ever, doing everything I was expected to do professionally and personally, but I was anxious and exhausted. I was ‘tired but wired’ all the time. During the day I felt like I’d had too much caffeine and at night I would pass out from exhaustion on the couch. I was working so hard but felt like I wasn’t making progress.

I felt like nothing I did was never enough…like I was never enough.

I didn’t want to feel this way at 40.

So I approached the problem like I approached everything. I. Did. It. All. I spent five years reading books, attending workshops, listing to podcasts, reading blog posts, and trying methods that promised solutions.

Through that process I realized that rather than doing more I needed to figure out what would make me happy.

I realized that I was already enough.

I’d been so busy living my life by everyone else’s standards and working hard to make sure they were happy that I didn’t know what I wanted out of life. I was unhappy and disconnected which wasn’t benefitting me, my job, or my loved ones.

I needed to focus on what actually mattered and let the rest go.

That’s easier said than done, of course. How do you know what actually matters to you and how do you focus on that when you’ve got a job and a family? Isn’t that selfish?

Looking back now, I felt guilty about saying I was unhappy because I didn’t think I deserved to feel that way. I had to let go of the stories I had told myself about who I was, what I deserved, and what I needed. When I started letting go of my stories and learned what made me who I was, I was able to slow down and prioritize how I spent my time and energy so I was actually able to do more for my family and produce more at my job. In this case, quality became quantity.

It isn’t selfish to prioritize your needs and when doing so allows you to be more present everyone around you benefits, too.

I was able to discover my passion for helping people who felt the same way I did. I realized that my friends, neighbors, sisters, my favorite checker at the grocery store, and strangers on the internet were busy, stressed out, and unfullfilled.
